2601 Parkway, the Paul Cret-Aaron Colish art deco-modern-cubist massive mammajamma up above the Art Museum. It's a beaut, far and away the king of Pennsylvania Ave's big buildings (the Philadelphian, Parkway House and the much maligned Best Western the others), serving up views of the Art Museum, Boathouse Row, the Schuylkill River and the skyline. This was a look at it on Friday, August 11, 2006, but for tons of historical photos (including alternate design entries), visit the Athenaeum's Buildings and Architects site.
