| That right there is the South Street Bridge. And that's what you're
driving/cycling/walking/running for your life across every time you do. You are
probably closer to your own death -- getting YOUR name in the paper -- than you really expect. Do you want to keep going across that old crumbling mess or do
you want your government to fix it? Contact your city councilperson or the Streets Department to let 'em know what you think. And while you're at it, you might as well hold them to the promise that there will be usable bike lanes, and that they had better make it pedestrian friendly. Matter of fact, encourage pedestrian use by making the ramps safe and attractive, and rebuild the north side of the bridge -- perhaps connect the turrets with their own cantilever that has benches for people to admire that skyline view. The view which, of course, will round out the show. Let's for a moment make like all is well -- South Street Bridge is a-ok -- and enjoy its views, from the days of old to ... 2008? (And a rehabilitated bridge???) |
